Hypnotherapy is a natural state of absorbed concentration combined with heightened awareness. People experience this state naturally throughout each and every day. Common examples might include, day dreaming, when you are totally immersed in a book or TV show, engrossed in a favourite hobby or when driving.
There is no one particular hypnotic feeling as such and everyone experiences it in a slightly different way, so most people don't normally realise when they have entered the state. They just feel very pleasantly comfortable. Hypnosis is simply a state of mind, in much the same way that happiness is a state of mind.
One common misconception is that hypnosis is some form of magic or supernatural power, this is simply not true. Hypnosis is a perfectly normal and natural state of mind that almost anyone can enter at will.
All hypnosis is really self hypnosis, which means that the hypnotist is guiding you into hypnosis, rather than doing hypnosis to you, therefore you always have control and a choice over what happens.
In hypnotherapy you are guided into the state of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes. It is literally therapy done while in the state of hypnosis and can be thought of as an effective and speedy form of psychotherapy. Hypnotherapy can change your patterns of behaviour and perceptions, enabling irrational fears, phobias, habits, negative thoughts and suppressed emotions to be overcome. With the help of the hypnotherapist, you are able to look at problems differently and maybe discover solutions to problems that had been missed before. A hypnotherapist will use their knowledge of psychology to effect change and promote wellbeing.'
When you are hypnotized, your subconscious mind is awakened
and communication becomes easier and faster.
You are in a relaxed and heightened state of awareness. You are not sleeping, not dreaming, and not awake. Your subconscious mind allows your body to act on positive
suggestions.
When you are relaxed in this way, it is possible to make
contact with your subconscious mind in order to effect
change in your life. The subconscious is an untapped resource
for creativity.
The subconscious mind is the seat of all your emotions
and therefore directs nearly all your behaviour. Most
importantly, the subconscious is responsible for maintaining
the body in good health and for all the autonomic processes,
e.g., breathing, blood circulation, tissue repair and
controlling blood-sugar level.
Through simple relaxation techniques it becomes easy,
with the help of a trained hypnotherapist, to visualise
yourself becoming healthier, happier, more confident,
a non-smoker, or whatever you want to be.
Unlike the stage hypnosis you see on the TV, which is
about entertainment, hypnotherapy is entirely therapeutic.
My aim is to assist clients in achieving their goals and
to help make their life more comfortable and enjoyable.
Hypnosis is a natural process that allows the subconscious
mind to bring strengths and abilities into consciousness
to achieve what we need and desire.
During a relaxed state, often referred to as 'trance',
there is a heightened susceptibility to beneficial suggestion
with access to forgotten or repressed memories stored
in the subconscious of the mind. The hypnotic state is
very pleasant and peole often liken it to feeling relaxed
and rejuevenated.
Suggestion Therapy
'With Suggestion Hypnotherapy the hypnotherapist sets
out to give the subconscious mind beneficial 'suggestions',
which aim to change the way it looks at events or situations.
This can be particularly
helpful where a situation is just about to present itself,
for example, to help someone stop that smoking habit or
biting their nails, or with a fear of flying. '
Hypno-analysis - Regression Therapy
'Hypnoanalysis (Analytical Hypnotherapy), on the other
hand, is a combination of psychotherapy; psychoanalysis
used with hypnosis and is the method that is used to seek
out the root cause of the problem, often stored in the
subconscious mind.
When the cause
of a problem is exposed and the resulting issues are dealt
with (i.e. cause and effect), the symptoms it produces
can progressively start to disappear.
People who have had hypnoanalysis, often understand that
many issues they have been experiencing have been caused
by something happening to them previously in this life,
or possibly even in a Past Life.
By accessing the root cause we can clear old blockages,
and deal with issues such as relationship patterns, phobias,
irrational fears, health problems etc. Hypnoanalysis is
an extremely valuable form of healing. '
Who can be hypnotised?
Almost everyone! It is a natural human state that we all
use spontaneously whenever we daydream or become engrossed
in a book or film.
Is it safe?
Yes. It is always safe when in the hands of a reputable
hypnotist.
Will I lose control under hypnosis?
No. You are aware at all times. You are always in control.
Your conscious mind is always ready to take control, and
is always able to make choices.
Will I remember what happened after
the session?
Yes. All of your normal faculties are present during the
session.
How many sessions will I need?
In many cases one, two or three. Hypnosis is a short-term
therapy but the number of sessions will depend upon the
complexity of the issue.
