Bullying

As children we often carry the feelings of being victimized well into later life where it affects our confidence in social, personal and work situations. No-one should be subject to bullying, but unfortunately it still happens.

The effects of bullying are largely underestimated, but the only person who can change the situation is the person has been bullied. Change work is done by altering their own perceptions, building their self-esteem and feelings of self-worth, etc.

Phobias

A phobia is more than a simple fear, or being afraid. It is to be totally traumatised by the stimulus. People can be afraid of a wide range of things and what can be totally acceptable to one person will not be to another.

The subconscious mind can often set up a kind of false instinct, whereby any sign of the object, person or situation, or even something resembling it or associated with it, can cause a phobic reaction.

How Many Session Will I Need?

The number of sessions that will be needed to release a person from their phobia will depend upon many things. For example; the client's personality type, their desire to overcome the phobia, how deep seated the problem is and how long the phobia has been in existance. However, the average for people I see is about 3-4 sessions. This can be longer in some cases where full blown panic attacks are occurring.

Dealing with the Phobia

The client is exposed to the phobia gradually, and at a slow and gradual pace and from this point on they recover from the effects of the phobic response and develop the necessary skills for coping with the phobia.

The cause of the phobia needs to be found and the emotion released. The person with a phobia will need to be helped to find and review the trigger situation, to see it with an adult maturity and understanding, and to then see the cause in a different way and with a different and better understanding.

Hypnosis and the Treatment of Pain

It is a known fact that hypnosis is very effective in relieving and controlling pain. Hypnotic interventions are extremely beneficial in the management of pain. Relaxation techniques are also shown to be very useful for reducing chronic pain. Hypnosis is being successfully used for management of acute pain associated with invasive procedures, treatments such as burn dressing changes, labor and childbirth, and some surgical procedures.

Pain is a subjective experience which only the person undergoing it can understand. Our experience of pain is determined partly by our concept of its meaning and our assumptions about it.

Treating Pain with Hypnosis

Pain should never be treated for its own sake, but if the underlying cause is known, hypnosis can be very effective in relieving pain.

Hypnotherapy is used in a variety of situations for treating pain, including Post-operative pain - where traditional painkillers aren't appropriate, and where a patient may be allergic to medication. Hypnotherapy is also used in the treatment of:
