What
is counselling?
Counselling
is a relationship that focuses on an individuals personal problems.
This kind of relationship friendships, and close relationships with
relatives. A counselor is able to be objective; they are not involved
in your every-day life. In this respect, a counsellor serves as
skilled listener who is able to help you to sort out your issues,
discover the nature of your true feelings, deal with problems more
effectively and achieve personal goals.
Do
I Need Counselling?
There
are times when we all feel stressed, angry, anxious, confused, or
depressed, and a caring friend or a relative may help by listening,
and being supportive of our feelings. However, there are times when
these problems do not go away, or emotions become overwhelming.
These are the times when we need to get some help.
How
long does counselling usually last?
Some
problems can be addressed within three to five sessions. Others
may require a whole series of appointments.
What
kinds of issues are addressed in counselling?
Here
is a list of some common concerns that might be addressed in counselling:

Insomnia

Fear and Anxiety
Alcohol or drugs

Are
there exceptions to confidentiality?
Yes
- in case of a life-threatening emergency or abuse, the need to
share limited information with others will become necessary. These
exceptions are rare. In every other case, your visit is completely
confidential.
Do
I always have to have an appointment to see a counsellor?
What if I don't want to see someone face to face?
You
don't have to have an appointment with a counsellor. You can call
the telephone counselling service, at: 01482-711006, between the
hours of 7.30am - 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday, where you can arrange
to speak to a counselor.
How
quickly could I be seen? What if I have an emergency?
Appointments
are usually available within a few days. Individuals needing to
be seen sooner should state that they need a more urgent appointment;
this can be arranged within a single day.
